Our Family Law Practice
We work with individuals throughout the course of a divorce, from the decision to file through negotiated settlements, mediation or trial, to post-judgment actions to modify or enforce a divorce decree. We encourage clients to consider alternative means of dispute resolution such as mediation, which can often be less expensive and minimize the impact on your children.
We handle all matters related to no-fault or fault-based divorce, including:
- Alimony or spousal support. We will help you determine whether an alimony award is appropriate and, if so, how much should be paid and for how long.
- Child support. Our lawyers will review all proposed child support orders for compliance with Mississippi guidelines, looking at incomes of the parties as well as custody arrangements. We will also ensure that all relevant income is included in the calculation, including self-employment, seasonal or commission-based income.
- Equitable distribution of property. We will work with you to equitably divide the debts and assets of your marriage, including real and personal property, retirement accounts, and business assets.
- Child custody and visitation. We will represent you in efforts to establish and implement custody and visitation agreements that are in the best interests of your minor children, while protecting and maintaining your role as a parent.
- Paternity. We will represent either side in a paternity action. We will also handle all support, custody and visitation issues that arise from the determination.
Our lawyers handle adoption proceedings, typically working with grandparents, stepparents or other relatives to complete the adoption of a minor child. We will help you file for a guardianship, when appropriate. We also advise individuals who are considering marriage and want to put a prenuptial/antenuptial agreement in place.
